 Session 5: Raid on the Slaver Camp


Party:

lvl 2 Kyle the Human Fighter (Lawful good)

lvl 2 Shave Oakwood the Elven Bard (Neutral good)

lvl. 2 Reginald Jameson the Human Cleric (Lawful good)

lvl. 1 Juan Juan the Elven Ranger (Chaotic neutral)

lvl. 1 Sylvain the Human Paladin (absent)

lvl. 1 Bean the Half-Orc Barbarian (absent)

Fred the Human Servant (absent)

Donkey the Shy Talking Pony (absent)


Note: Sylvain and Bean couldn't make it. Fred and Donkey were still back at the jail.


The Slave Ring

    When they were close to the slaver camp, Sylvain and Bean decided to stop and meditate, leaving the other four by themselves. The slaver camp had four groups of four bandits, with each group at one end of the camp. Six guards were protecting the slaves in a fence. There was also a cage with a black bear in it, two guards in front of it, and a swarm of bees close to it. There was a tent with two guards and a thug standing outside of it. Most likely, a bandit captain was inside it.

    The battle started with Kyle shooting his crossbow, Juan shooting his bow, and Shavae casting a bane spell that made it more difficult for a guard to succeed on an attack roll. Juan and Reginald attacked one of the groups of bandits. Kyle and Shavae jumped over the fence and attacked the guards. Having been knocked down to 2 hitpoints, Shavae jumped back over the fence. Having dispatched the bandits, Juan jumped over the fence and attacked a guard. Reginald healed Shavae. Shavae tried and failed several times to jump back over the fence, finally deciding to pick the lock on the gate. Reginald tripped and fell on his face when he tried to jump over the fence. At one point, Juan was reduced to 0 hitpoints, but he got a natural 20 on his death saving throw, so he regained all his hitpoints. He was reduced to 0 hitpoints again later and was saved by Reginald. I can't remember at what point it was, but Reginald rolled a natural 20 and threw a bomb, severely injuring three bandits, and killing one, who were approaching the battle.

    Eventually, the party managed to kill the guards and free the slaves. With the freed slaves in tow, they ran for their lives, with four bandits in pursuit. Juan felled two of them with arrows. Shavae killed the third with her rapier. Finally, as the fourth was surrounded by Kyle, Shavae, and Reginald (Juan was protecting the former slaves), the last bandit tried to run away. Kyle and Shavae missed their reactions, but Reginald tripped the bandit, jumped on top of the bandit, and stabbed the bandit with Reginald's dagger.

    After a long rest, the party led the former slaves back to the city (the one with the jail). They also picked up Sylvain, Bean, Fred, and Donkey.

Blake noticed that the cages were just an illusion. He also noticed a Cult Fanatic in the far corner of the room. He shot two arrows at it. Upon seeing Blake fire arrows, Eldon reflexively blasted the Troll with Eldritch Blast. The illusory cage dissipated.
